Position on Law and Order
An APP government will pride itself to be served by law enforcement agencies that upholds the highest standards on integrity and in turn to be given due respect from citizens and visitors alike.
The App will ensure that there is adequate allocation and budgeted funds for the enhancement of working conditions for the members of the RAPF, Customs and Immigration Departments. Our government will procure modern equipment and appropriate tools which will enable them to perform their duties more professionally and effectively in combating and preventing the various forms of crime in particular drug trafficking and money laundering and all forms of violent crime.
Law Enforcement:
The APP will:
Ensure that officers of these agencies are governed by codes of conduct other than general orders, thereby minimizing the potential of corruption.
Facilitate the training of all officers in the latest techniques of policing.
Allocating the required funding for an Automated Finger Print Identification which would improve the method of identifying criminals.
In consultation with The Governor seek to have a review and restructuring of the R.A.P.F. within six months upon assuming office. The APP further commits itself to the implementation of recommendations of such a review within the first year in office.
Ensure that terms and conditions of work must be such as to avoid the need to engage in other employment.
Provide Customs Department with resources to combat cross-border smuggling of illicit drugs and firearms.
Provide Immigration Department with resources to prevent entry of illegal migrants.
Continued upgrading of the staff of the Attorney General Chambers.
Will ensure the office of Director of Public Prosecution is created and becomes functional within two years of assuming office.
Crime Prevention:
The APP will:
Establish an half way house and develop programmes and social activities which will be geared towards rehabilitation of the youth who are involved in deviant behaviour and criminal activity.
Review and amend the existing criminal code.
Build and/or upgrade district police stations in the East End, Blowing Point and West End communities.
Introduce a Rehabilitation Programme to prepare those in prison to re-enter society as useful citizens.
Increase penalties for those involved in the un-lawful use of firearms.
Establishment of an island wide neighbourhood watch initiative with full government and communities partnerships .
